This is a monthly drop-in mentoring group for our pro bono bankruptcy attorneys. It is an opportunity for volunteer attorneys to discuss case and practice issues with each other and for newer attorneys to get advice from experienced practitioners.

If, like most lawyers, you have spent time in the courtroom waiting for your case to be heard, you know that there is a lot to be learned from just watching other cases. We have decided to take that experience one step further with a pilot program we are calling "Grand Rounds."

Grand Rounds is an opportunity for a small group of new attorneys and attorneys new to family law to observe in the courtroom for part of a morning and then discuss what they saw with an experienced practitioner. It will also include a guided tour of the Probate and Family Court to introduce group members to the various players that may be involved in a family law case.

Participation in Grand Rounds is limited to attorneys who are active in VLP/Senior Partners pro bono cases or projects. We plan to offer these sessions every other month in 2012.?

The group will gather on the 3rd floor of the Brooke Courthouse outside the Registry of Probate.

This basic training will focus on how to bring a Petition for the Guardianship of an Adult in the Probate Court. The training will address guardianship of incapacitated persons that are unable to make or communicate decisions due to a medically diagnosed condition. The training will include instruction on how to complete the petition and accompanying pleadings, waive fees and costs, obtain a medical certificate from the incapacitated person's physician, and how to handle issues of service and the bond. This is an excellent area of practice for new attorneys as well as an additional area of practice for attorneys experienced in other areas of law, but unfamiliar with the guardianship practice.

This orientation provides an introduction to working with the Volunteer Lawyers Project/Senior Partners for Justice. Led by one of the VLP staff attorneys and the referral coordinator, this orientation provides an in depth look at everything you need to know in beginning your work with our organization. We will touch upon many frequently asked questions like: what types of cases does VLP work with, what it's like to work with interpreters, and where can I get help on this case. Along with that, this training will provide a space for new panel attorneys to ask any questions they may have about the way our organization works, the referral process and anything other questions that may arise. This training is meant to provide an introduction to VLP, our services, and our clients. It will be held the first Monday of every month from 4pm-5pm. Each orientation can accommodate 15 people, so please register early to reserve your spot.

This training will prepare volunteer attorneys to assist low-income, unrepresented litigants in civil collection cases through VLP's Fair Debt Collection Lawyer of the Day project at the Boston Municipal Court.  The training will cover civil procedure and practice at the BMC, Limited Assistance Representation, as well as substantive areas of consumer and fair debt collection law that you will need as a volunteer.  Fair debt collection cases are a great opportunity for lawyers seeking courtroom experience. 

About this project: 

Volunteer attorneys assist low-income debtors and creditors at the Boston Municipal Court in the Brooke Courthouse on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon and 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on a Limited Assistance Representation (LAR) basis.  LAR means that the attorney only represents the client in the proceeding (case management conference, motion, etc.) before the court that day.  The representation begins and ends on the same day.

This orientation provides an introduction to working with the Volunteer Lawyers Project/Senior Partners for Justice. Led by one of the VLP staff attorneys and the referral coordinator, this orientation provides an in depth look at everything you need to know in beginning your work with our organization. We will touch upon many frequently asked questions like: what types of cases does VLP work with, what it's like to work with interpreters, and where can I get help on this case. Along with that, this training will provide a space for new panel attorneys to ask any questions they may have about the way our organization works, the referral process and anything other questions that may arise. This training is meant to provide an introduction to VLP, our services, and our clients. It will be held the first Monday of every month from 4pm-5pm. Each orientation can accommodate 15 people, so please register early to reserve your spot.

An introductory training on Domestic Relations Law. This one-session training will give you the basics you need to initiate a divorce case. It will cover filing the Complaint and all the accompanying documents, and serving the opposing party.  Practice materials will be distributed at the training.

This is a monthly drop-in mentoring group for our pro bono bankruptcy attorneys. It is an opportunity for volunteer attorneys to discuss case and practice issues with each other and for newer attorneys to get advice from experienced practitioners.

This mentoring group is for attorneys who have open pro bono cases. Enrollment is limited and will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

The group will start promptly at noon. BYOL (bring your own lunch).

• Represent clients in mediation or negotiation;and
• Represent clients on a Limited Assistance Representation (LAR) basis in court hearings.

On Fridays, volunteer attorneys provide a range of services to clients in family law and guardianship matters, everything from simple advice to help with pro se pleadings, to representation in a contested court hearing. We take any kind of case, in any procedural posture, as long as the clients are eligible for our services. Experienced attorneys are available for on-the-spot mentoring and guidance. 

Because this is a Limited Assistance Representation project, we only represent the client in the matter they have on the day we are at court. We are usually done for the day by 1:00 p.m.

This orientation provides an introduction to working with the Volunteer Lawyers Project/Senior Partners for Justice. Led by one of the VLP staff attorneys and the referral coordinator, this orientation provides an in depth look at everything you need to know in beginning your work with our organization. We will touch upon many frequently asked questions like: what types of cases does VLP work with, what it's like to work with interpreters, and where can I get help on this case. Along with that, this training will provide a space for new panel attorneys to ask any questions they may have about the way our organization works, the referral process and anything other questions that may arise. This training is meant to provide an introduction to VLP, our services, and our clients. It will be held the first Monday of every month from 4pm-5pm. Each orientation can accommodate 15 people, so please register early to reserve your spot.

This is a monthly drop-in mentoring group for our pro bono bankruptcy attorneys. It is an opportunity for volunteer attorneys to discuss case and practice issues with each other and for newer attorneys to get advice from experienced practitioners.

This mentoring group is for attorneys who have open pro bono cases. Enrollment is limited and will be on a first-come-first-served basis.
